Although the author skillfully brings the reader through the realization that the main character is in peril; the naivety of that danger to the main character is extremely plausible and makes the suspense much more frightening. A haunting portrayal of a naive and of course lovely young English widow vacationing in a casino resort town near Paris, and the queer characters she runs across. Towards the end the atmosphere of suspense is terrifying.
A young woman follows a friend to a European gambling resort and meets some unusual characters. I loved this novel because it was such a window into a long forgotten world. The writing is contemporary and fresh, even though this was written a long time ago. The thriller plot is somewhat predictable but it's a page-turner anyway.
I thought I had it basically figured out, but found myself on the edge of my seat! Loved the entire book and there was a riveting ending. Highly recommended.
The work itself is fine, but I find it hard to take seriously with such a poor job of production by this publisher. A travesty.
